Magdeburg Water Bridge @Germany The Magdeburg Water Bridge in Germany deserves a special mention. Magdeburg Water Bridge is the most popular water bridge in Germany opened in October 2003. At 918 meters, this Water Bridge is a longest navigable aqueduct in Germany and in the world that connects the Elbe-Havel Canal to the east and Mittelland Canal to the west of the Elbe River and allows ships to cross over the River. Ships moving between the two had to make a 12-kilometer detour, descending from the Mittelland Canal through the Rothensee boat lift into the Elbe, then sailing downstream on the river, before entering the Elbe-Havel Canal through Niegripp lock. The water bridge now connects Berlin’s inland harbor network with the ports along the Rhine river.
